$220 per student ($100 deposit) includes materials for tote bag construction, use of workshop equipment and notions available to complete projects. Extra material required at own cost.

An opportunity to gauge students skills and receive assistance with basic sewing knowledge. Bring your own machine and take the opportunity to get to know it better or use one of ours (domestic machines only). Initially through the construction of a tote bag which can be used to cart future sewing projects to and from the nest, students will learn the basics of how to operate a domestic sewing machine. Through this process the tutor will learn where each student is at with their sewing skills and be able to assist them in deciding on their next project… working from a basic pattern, which students will commence after they’ve completed their tote bag. Returning students start working with a pattern straight away.

Tutor: Marie-Nicole Roberts, Founder of Creators Nest.

About Marie-Nicole: Born into the world of sewing, with a mother who was a seamstress, school holidays were often spent at a clothing factory in Melbourne, clipping threads and sewing on buttons. Instead of making boxer shorts and pillow cases in school sewing classes she was making suits and formal dresses. While her initial career path as a professional photographer didn’t include sewing at it’s core, there was often fabric featured in her work. On the side she still made clothes for herself and her family. Shifting career to being an artisan, sewing re-entered her profession, creating unique repurposed blanket guitar cases, leather satchels, fur vests and more.
